UI design for H90 Harmonizer® by Eventide Audio. Working alongside the UI team, pixel-based fonts, icons and graphics were developed specially for this product to highlight the strengths of the onboard OLED screen, optimized for live performance. Designed to work in black and white, with varying shades of grey to indicate active and hover states while using hardware navigation. While pixel fonts can usually resort to simple geometry for the easiest rendering, the goal in creating H90’s typography was to suggest style inherent of classic typefaces, and take advantage of each pixel to create edges and shapes that make the text more readable at a distance.
The pixel font itself has 3 styles: a large bold display for program names, and small bold and standard weights for parameter and menu text. Additional symbols and icons were developed to indicate active modes, and to differentiate between H90’s algorithms. Each effect type has a unique icon that symbolically represents the function or sound of each effect algorithm.
