Kuon Ganjo

Album cover, type design, Vinyl and CD packaging for Kuon Ganjo: Time Without Beginning, the latest album by legendary jazz drummer Mike Clark on Wide Hive Records. Kuon Ganjo in Japanese refers to the remote past when the original Buddha, Shakyamuni attained enlightenment—the eternity of life. The title typography was designed as a modern geometric analog to woodblock printing, and the characters 久遠元初 were designed in the same style for the LP back cover. The cover photo was given a monochromatic treatment with additional digital painting texture. Clark’s 3rd solo release for Wide Hive, this quintet album features an all-star band: Patrice Rushen (piano), Eddie Henderson (trumpet), Craig Handy (saxophone), and Essiet Okon Essiet (bass).
