36 Days of Type (‘25)

I’ve been missing the excitement of the 36 Days of Type challenge, so once again, I embarked on my own self-guided type meditation in April. The goal was to have a complete set of uppercase and numbers by the end of 36 days as the impetus for an entirely new typeface. The bones for this font emerged from the new logo I made for EP Design, which I’ve now titled “32” to commemorate my 32nd birthday in December 2024. This year also marks 10 years of operating as EP Design, so a brand refresh was in order.

I have been really curious to try some new variable font ideas with Glyphs, especially shifting between sans and serif with degrees of contrast. This variable font has 3 axes: weight, serif and contrast. Each of the 37 compositions have their own flow and irregular rhythm, with each axis on a slightly different timing from the other. Allowed to immerse oneself for long enough, they can be somewhat hypnotic. The variable font animation was created with the Font Gauntlet by ABC Dinamo.

Note: Loading all of the GIF files on this page may take a little longer than usual, so please be patient—it’s worth it.
